Escludere Israele dall’Eurovision Song, c’è una petizione che lo chiede. Rilanciata da Change.org.
Nel 2024 l’Eurovision Song Contest si svolgerà in Svezia, a Malmö. L’anno scorso a Liverpool fu proprio una cantante svedese a imporsi, Loreen con il brano Tattoo.
Nata nel 1956 per simboleggiare l’unità dell’Europa nel mondo della canzone, nel 1973 si decise di estendere la partecipazione anche a Paesi extraeuropei, sempre nello spirito di fratellanza che avrebbe dovuto caratterizzarla. Uno spirito che spesso è stato palesemente tradito. Fu proprio Israele il primo Paese non europeo a essere invitato. L’Eurovision fu subito molto seguita dal pubblico israeliano.
La petizione non è certo un atto che sminuisce l’inammissibile e sanguinario comportamento di Hamas, sfociato il 7 ottobre scorso nel puro e vigliacco terrorismo. Naturalmente la richiesta di esclusione è una reazione ai crimini di guerra che Israele guidato dal premier di destra Benjamin Netanyahu e alla violazione dei più elementari diritti umani nei confronti di bambini e civili palestinesi, segregati senza presente e senza futuro. Un autentico genocidio che il mondo cosiddetto civilizzato, sta tollerando oltre ogni ragionevole misura solo per gli aspetti economici e politici di chi è in affari con Israele.
Se una guerra dichiarata ha determinato una presa di posizione contro la Russia, la guerra di Israele contro i palestinesi non può far scaturire un atteggiamento diverso. Non bastassero gli atti di guerra e i bombardamenti, ci sono anche le parole di una violenza inaudita del premier israeliano che parla di sterminio, indignando anche tanti ebrei ortodossi israeliani (malmenati dalla polizia come si è visto in tanti video apparsi sul web) e gente civile, soprattutto giovani di tutto il mondo. Sembra incredibile che un popolo che ha subito quel che ha subito dal nazismo, possa ora riservare trattamento analogo ai palestinesi. Il tutto senza concedere indulgenza alcuna al terrorismo di Hamas, contro Israele e contro lo stesso popolo palestinese. E senza che si debba essere tacciati di antisemitismo, anche perché non sono pochi gli ebrei nel mondo che condannano la condotta di Israele.
Israele come la Russia, dovrebbe essere cacciato dallo sport
Se la Russia dopo l’invasione dell’Ucraina è stata giustamente esclusa dall’EuroVision (e dallo sport), non si capisce per quale ragione Israele, alla luce della guerra di sterminio attuata nella striscia di Gaza, possa avere diritto a presentardi sulla ribalta europeo come se niente fosse. Dirò di più, finché Israele è in guerra contro i palestinesi, bambini e civili inclusi, dovrebbe essere allontanato anche dal mondo dello sport. Ed essere bandito dall’Olimpiade di Parigi 2024. Per ciò che vale ancora un’Olimpiade rimodellata sulle esigenze del business.
Israele ha vinto quattro edizioni
sraele ha partecipato 47 volte al contest europeo della canzone, vincendo in quattro occasioni: 1978 con Izhar Cohen and the Alphabeta, 1979 con Mlk and Honey, 1998 con i Dana International, 2018 con Netta. Per tre volte, ogni venti anni, Israele ha anche ospitato l’Eurovision, dopo che nel 1973 è stato ammesso a farne parte: nel 1979, nel 1999 e nel 2009.

Sono 51 le partecipazioni italiane al festival della canzone europea, Eurovision song contest. Nel 1964 con Gigliola Cinquetti, nel 1990 con Toto Cutugno, nel 2021 con i Maneskin. Per tre volte l’Italia ha ospitato la serata finale: Napoli nel 1965, Roma nel 1991, Torino nel 2022.

Escludere Israele dall’Eurovision Song Contest
The goal of this petition is to raise the pressure to exclude Israel from the European Song Contest, Eurovision, until a two-state solution can be reached.
All of us deserve peace. Those who are not acting to achieve peace should not be included in a celebration of diversity such as Eurovision!
Innocent Palestinian men, women and children are losing their lives daily under a false narrative that labels all Arabs as terrorists, deserving of death or worse. This is not just an issue of politics; it’s an issue of humanity.
The Eurovision Song Contest is a platform that celebrates diversity, unity, and cultural exchange. However, including Israel in this event seems contradictory to these values given the ongoing conflict and human rights violations in Palestine. According to Human Rights Watch (2021), Israeli authorities are committing crimes against humanity by methodically privileging Jewish Israelis while repressing Palestinians.
Eurovision values excellence and accountability (EBU, 2024). The contest last year was emphasised by togetherness and solidarity. In 2022 Russia* was excluded from the context after invading Ukraine, and has yet to be welcomed back (Eurovisionworld, 2022). So, why is Israel still there? Israel has been officially declared as committing apartheid against the Palestinian people (Amnesty International, 2022), and have been part Eurovision controversy a multiple times during their participation since 1973 (Riesman, 2019; Doyle, 2023). In 2000, the state of Israel disowned their own entry, PingPong, after the band called for peace in the Middle East on the stage ( https://youtu.be/3uNfhj66GOo?si=ofFg4tu0MMFHud5P ). In 2016, Eurovision banned the display of Palestinian flags during the contest (Haaertz, 2016). Quite a clear political statement for a show that claims to be non-political (ESC, 2023). In 2019, after a win brought the competition to Tel Aviv, Iceland’s entry Hatari displayed Palestinian flags as a display of protest and solidarity and accrued fines from the Israeli state against their actions, something that was supported by ESC under the statement that Eurovision does not involve itself in political matters (DW, 2019). Hypocritical, especially after last year’s song contest was seen to be a very clear political statement (Williams, 2023). It’s not a secret at this point that despite ESC’s claims to be apolitical, the entire contest is rooted in politics (Castro, 2021). So, really, why is Israel still allowed to compete?
To put it simply, it’s because no one is making a fuss. Russia was only excluded after other competing countries declared they would remove their participation if Russia were allowed to compete (Gallagher, 2022). In making that decision, ESC claimed that the decision was made to uphold the basic values of democracy. Ok, then it’s time to hold Eurovision accountable.
By excluding Israel from such international platforms as Eurovision until they respect human rights laws and cease their oppressive actions against Palestinians, we can send a strong message about our commitment to justice and equality for all people. A two-state solution can be reached, and it starts with a ceasefire.
